"Cheek at the Stansfield"

A review of Stansfield Arms by C Judge written on Sunday 25th of September 2011

We have just returned from a meal at The Stansfield Arms having booked a table for 4.00pm. We stood for 5 minutes as the waitress told us the table was being laid but were then shown to a table near the door which was ready when we arrived.

We were not asked if we would like a drink and had to ask at the same time as ordering the starter.

The starters took 20 minutes to serve but were basically okay.

We then waited 45 minutes between the starter and the main course and had to ask on two occasions where the meal was.

By this time our elderly mother had become chilled from sitting in the ever increasing draught from the door.

The sea bass fillet was overcooked and swimming in melted butter garnished with a pile of rocket leaves the size of a small football.

The veal was burnt underneath.

The smoked haddock with poached egg was sat upon a mountainous pile of lumpy dry mashed potato.

We had to ask for vegetables and chips as these were not brought with the meal.

The vegetables were stewed.

However the poor meal paled into insignifiacance next to the sarcastic comment from the waitress.

As we had become hungry waiting for the meal we had eaten most of it.

When asked if the meal had been okay we answered that it had been poor.

With a smile the waitress said ' I like to eat a lot when the food is poor'

Did they expect us to wait another 45 mins while they cooked another??.

So potential customers, if you like poor food, lousy service and insolent staff plus the privilege of paying £53.95 without alcoholic drinks, do please visit the Stansfield Arms
