A review of St Mary's R C Church by Anne Heath written on Wednesday 29th of July 2009
As a small child in the 1960's I loved visiting St Mary's. My grandfather worshipped there as a child also attending the boys school as had my father in the 1930's. I was transfixed by the war memorial at the back of the church. Just after I learned to read I remember picking out the name of my uncle Francis who had died aged 18 in the first world war. I'm not sure that he is commemorated anywhere else as he died during training. I loved the accoustic of the church and the victorian decorations. The church we attended in York was fairly modern and could not compare. .
