A review of Wyke Lion by B Power written on Tuesday 11th of May 2010
We made a booking for 11 people for an early evening Sunday meal. Considering we had booked in advance and it was a Sunday, we expected traditional Sunday Lunch to be available on the menu; not the case, they had sold out. When I let the Manager know of our disappointment, his reaction was one of 'so what', which I found really rude, he did however assure us that everything else on the menu was available. We decided on our selections and proceeded to the bar with our orders. The staff were basically incompetant and it took 4 attempts for the waiter to get my order right and I was only ordering for 3 people out of the 11! he also informed me that we could not order a lobster tail as an extra because they had run out, thus the Manager's claim of earlier was incorrect. We waited ages for the starters and the waitress dropped my bread on the floor promising to bring out some more, after some ten minutes of waiting and a further reminder, it eventually arrived. We then waited nearly half an hour before our empty plates were removed and another half an hour for our main courses to arrive. The food was terrible! steaks ordered medium rare came out rare and were tastless, the chips were dry and only just warm, the salad dishes were made up of wilted lettuce leaves trailing on to the table from the plates and with evidence of something else having eaten the leaves! one of our party paid an extra £1 for a prawn skewer comprising of just 2 prawns! my dish was truly disgusting. I ordered a warm black pudding, potato and bacon salad with croutons and it looked unappetising (a mush of black and green with soggy grease laden croutons) and tasted worse! in fact after one mouthful I left it. The desserts weren't much better either. I will not be returning to the Wyke Lion again and I really can't think of anything good to report other than the decor is nice..
